The electoral alliance of the Christian Democrats and True Finns was victorious in the 2009 European Parliament election, gaining a total of two seats. The successful cadidate of the Christian Democrats was party secretary Sari Essayah, with a total of 53 688 votes. In terms of votes cast, Sari Essayah was the seventh most successful candidate of the election. All in all, with 69467 gained votes, the support of the Christian Democrats was 4.2%.

As regards the other parties, the National Coalition Party and the Center Party each gained three seats in the European Parliament. The Social Democratic Party and the Green League in turn each gained two seats. The True Finns, Christian Democrats and the Swedish People's Party each gained one seat. The Left Alliance lost the seat they had previously held at the European Parliament.
